PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Coming off a six-point weekend, two members of the Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team were recognized by the Little East Conference (LEC) with weekly honors, the league announced Monday.
Graduate student
Brandon Shantz (San Antonio, Texas) was named LEC Men's Ice Hockey Goalie of the Week, while freshman
Étienne Tremblay-Mathieu (Québec City, Québec) earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Shantz made 38 saves in his lone start of the week, helping the Panthers rally past UMass Boston, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon during the team's
Salute the Troops game. He came up big in the second period, stopping 23 stops in the frame alone, and even recorded an assist on PSU's first goal.
Tremblay-Mathieu had a standout weekend, piling up six points with a goal and five assists over the unbeaten stretch. He scored a power-play goal and added three assists while finishing +3 in PSU's 7-1 win over UMass Dartmouth on Friday evening, then assisted on both the game-tying and game-winning goals in Saturday's victory over the Beacons.
Plymouth State (3-3-0, 3-1-0 LEC) remains home for a pair of LEC contests this weekend. The Panthers host Keene State on Friday (Nov. 21) at 6 p.m., before squaring off against WestConn on Saturday (Nov. 22) at 2 p.m.
