BRISTOL, R.I. – Graduate student
Chase Anestis (Belmont, N.H.) advanced to the title bout at 165 pounds to place second, while senior
Michael Moussa (Tucson, Ariz.) also earned a podium finish to lead the Plymouth State University wrestling team at the Roger Williams University Invitational on Saturday.
Anestis cruised through his opening two bouts, needing less than a minute to secure a pin before recording a 10-0 major decision to reach the semifinals. He punched his ticket to the championship with an 8-5 decision but fell just short in a narrow 4-3 loss to Jack Richardson of Johnson & Wales, the top-ranked wrestler in the region and No. 7 nationally.
Moussa split his first two matches at 197-pounds, earning a 19-3 technical fall before suffering a setback that sent him to the consolation bracket. There, he battled back with three straight wins – 10-3 and 7-4 decisions followed by a 10-2 major decision – to reach the consolation semifinals, ultimately finishing sixth.
Freshman
Sebastian Sargent (Holderness, N.H.) picked up his first collegiate win and pin at 141 pounds, while junior
Ryan M. Fleming (Salisbury, Mass.) also won by fall in his opening match. Freshman
Brent Allain (Bridgewater, Mass.) added his first career pin at 165 pounds.
Plymouth State finished eighth out of nine in the team standings.
