PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Coming off her Little East Conference (LEC) Co-Player of the Week recognition, senior
Sophie George (Meredith, N.H.) added another accolade to her resume on Wednesday, earning New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) weekly honors.
George was one of five players named to the NEWBA First Team for standout individual performances last week. She poured in career highs of 26 points and six three-pointers in Plymouth State's thrilling 73-72 overtime victory at Western Connecticut last Saturday. George delivered in the clutch, sinking a pair of free throws with 3.3 seconds remaining to seal the win.
Her impact extended beyond the offensive end, as George helped limit WestConn's second-leading scorer to just 3-for-15 shooting.
The Panthers (8-2, 1-1 LEC) are off to an impressive start, already surpassing last year's win total and posting the program's best start since the 2009-10 season, when Plymouth State went 8-1 before the semester break. PSU returns to action on Jan. 6, hosting Keene State at Foley Gymnasium for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
