PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Fresh off a career-high performance that led the Plymouth State University women's basketball team to a key Little East Conference (LEC) win, senior
Sophie George (Meredith, N.H.) earned weekly honors, the league announced Monday.
George was named LEC Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week following an outstanding showing in PSU's 73-72 overtime win at Western Connecticut on Saturday.
George set the tone early, drilling three three-pointers in the opening quarter and heading into halftime with 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. She delivered again in the second half, knocking down another triple to tie the game at 61-61 with just over two minutes remaining. In overtime, her baseline jumper put the Panthers ahead and she calmly sank a pair of free throws with 3.3 seconds left to help seal the win.
Plymouth State enters the holiday break with an 8-2 overall record (1-1 LEC), its best start since the 2009-10 season, when the Panthers opened 8-1. PSU resumes action on Jan. 6, hosting Keene State at Foley Gymnasium for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
