SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Five members of the Plymouth State University wrestling team competed at the NEWA Futures Tournament hosted by Western New England University on Sunday.
Sophomore
Ryan M. Fleming (Salisbury, Mass.) came up short in a pair of five-point losses by decision while wrestling at 149 pounds. He dropped his opening bout, 6-1, and fell in the consolation bracket by an 11-6 score.
Freshman
John Allmers (Rivervale, N.J.) also grappled at 149 pounds. Allmers suffered a technical fall defeat in his first round matchup before losing by fall in his second bout.
Sophomore
Cam McMahon (East Hampstead, N.H.) represented at 125 pounds, dropping his two bouts by fall, while classmate
Jon Picon Ruiz (Central Falls, R.I.) suffered the same result at heavyweight.
Competing at 165 pounds, freshman
Cooper Carlson (Merrimack, N.H.) went 0-2 with a loss by fall and major decision setback.
The Panthers finished 16th as a team.
Plymouth State heads to the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championships at Wesleyan University next weekend.
