Gaspa selected as PSU Female Athlete of the Month

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Graduate student Megan Gaspa (Laconia, N.H.) of the Plymouth State women's lacrosse team has been named the PSU Female Athlete of the Month for April, presented by the New Hampshire Army National Guard.

Gaspa played a pivotal role in helping the Panthers capture their 12th Little East Conference (LEC) regular season title with an unbeaten run through league play. She totaled 26 caused turnovers, 22 ground balls, 45 draw controls, nine goals, and three assists as PSU went a perfect 8-0 in April to secure the top seed for the LEC Tournament.

Gaspa opened the month with five draw controls, three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and a goal in Plymouth State's 16-10 win at Bridgewater State on April 1. Four days later, she wreaked havoc on UMass Boston, registering five caused turnovers, three draw controls, three ground balls, and a goal.

She posted huge numbers on April 9 as Plymouth State set the program's single-game scoring record in a 28-1 rout of VTSU Castleton. Gaspa snared nine draw controls, added three caused turnovers, two ground balls, and notched three goals for good measure.

Plymouth State eked out an 11-10 win at WestConn on April 12, with Gaspa once again leading the charge, collecting five ground balls, three caused turnovers, one draw control, and a goal.

Four days later, she was held without a ground ball for just the second time this season, but secured eight draw controls, two caused turnovers, and a goal as the Panthers pulled away from Southern Maine. Gaspa followed that with her best offensive performance of the year in a 21-14 win over Eastern Connecticut State on April 19, tallying four points on three goals and an assist, while contributing two ground balls, two draw controls, and a caused turnover.

On April 23, in a key win over Keene State to lock up the regular season crown, Gaspa posted a season-high six caused turnovers, four ground balls, and two draw controls. She capped off the unbeaten month with a dominant effort in a 26-7 win over UMass Dartmouth on April 26, finishing with 15 draw controls – one shy of the school record – along with four caused turnovers, three ground balls, a goal, and an assist.

Gaspa was named the LEC Defensive Player of the Week every week in April, before earning All-LEC First Team and Defensive Player of the Year honors earlier this week. She currently ranks in the program's top ten in career caused turnovers, draw controls, and ground balls, and sits 10th nationally with 3.22 caused turnovers per game.

Though the Panthers fell short of a third consecutive LEC Tournament title, PSU earned the conference's first-ever at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. Plymouth State will face Marymount University (Va.) in a first-round game on Saturday (May 10) at York College (Pa.). Opening draw is set for noon.
