PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior
Anyah Fields (San Diego, Calif.) and freshman
Sidney Huff (Port Orchard, Wash.) picked up their first career singles wins, but the University of Southern Maine slipped past Plymouth State University, 4-3, in a Little East Conference (LEC) women's tennis match at the Holderness School Courts on Tuesday afternoon.
PSU secured the doubles point, and Fields and Huff added singles wins, but an injury-forced retirement at No. 4 proved to be the deciding factor.
Plymouth State falls to 1-6 (0-4 LEC), while the Huskies improve to 3-5 (2-2 LEC).

How it Happened:
- Fields and senior Alyssa Craigie (Gilford, N.H.) earned a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while senior Maddie Lorenz (Jefferson, N.H.) and sophomore Sarah Lamy (Hooksett, N.H.) cruised to a 6-1 victory at No. 3, giving PSU the doubles point.
- Fields collected her first collegiate singles win at No. 6 with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 result, and Huff followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5.
- An injury at No. 4, coupled with Southern Maine sweeping the top three flights, allowed the Huskies to rally for the match win.
By the Numbers:
- Fields earned her first career singles victory.
- Huff also picked up her first collegiate win.
- Lorenz, Lamy, and Craigie share the team lead with three doubles wins each.
- Despite the setback, Plymouth State leads the all-time series, 25-7.
