STANDISH, Maine – Freshman
Evelyn Goudreau (Topsham, Maine) scored four times in her collegiate debut, but Saint Joseph's College of Maine rallied from a 6-1 deficit to top Plymouth State University in overtime, 10-9, in the season opener for both teams at SJC Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.
Plymouth State scored the first four goals of the game and carried a 5-1 lead into the second quarter. Junior
Greta Oberacker (East Falmouth, Mass.) extended the margin to 6-1 three minutes into the second, but the Monks closed the first half with consecutive goals to pull within 6-3.
PSU still held a two-goal lead, 9-7, with eight minutes to play, but St. Joe's scored twice in the next two minutes to even the score. The Panthers had two chances in the final minute, but the Saint Joseph's goalie came up with a pair of key stops and the Monks capitalized midway through overtime to steal the win.
Plymouth State opens its season at 0-1, while St. Joe's starts 1-0.

How it Happened:
- Goudreau scored her first collegiate goal on a free position attempt four minutes in, and sophomore Claire Joyce (Braintree, Mass.) added her first of the year to open the game. Oberacker extended the lead to 3-0 after the first five minutes.
- Goudreau struck again to make it 4-0 with 5:37 left in the first before St. Joe's got on the board.
- Junior Sammy Murphy (Harrisville, R.I.) answered for the Panthers to restore the four-goal margin, 5-1, after one.
- Oberacker made it 6-1 three minutes into the second quarter.
- The Monks countered with back-to-back goals midway through the frame to pull within 6-3 at the half.
- The teams traded goals to start the third quarter, with Goudreau tallying two more for PSU. The hosts scored late to pull within 8-6 entering the fourth.
- St. Joe's made it a one-goal game in the opening minutes of the final quarter, but Murphy responded to make it 9-7 with 12 minutes left in regulation.
- The Monks scored twice to pull even. PSU had two chances in the final minute, but the St. Joe's goalie made a pair of key stops to force overtime.
- St. Joe's completed the comeback with a goal midway through the overtime period to account for the final score.
By the Numbers:
- Goudreau led the Panthers with four goals.
- Oberacker and Murphy scored two goals apiece. Joyce added one.
- Freshmen Olivia Thibert (Dighton, Mass.) and Grace Hoover (Salem, N.H.) each registered assists. Hoover added a game-high six draw controls and three ground balls.
- Freshman Caitlin Snow (Peabody, Mass.) made 11 saves.
- Freshman Karina Bosco (North Dighton, Mass.) led the Panthers with four ground balls.
- Plymouth State held a 19-17 advantage in shots.
- St. Joe's went 17-for-23 on clears, while PSU was 16-for-21.
- Plymouth State had won all three previous meetings.
