ML: Walden, Tattan leads Panthers to Senior Day rout of Salem State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshmen Colby Walden (Londonderry, N.H.) and Seamus Tattan (West Roxbury, Mass.) combined for 10 goals and 18 points as Plymouth State University celebrated Senior Night with a dominant 20-8 win over Salem State University in a Little East Conference (LEC) men's lacrosse game at Panther Field Wednesday evening.

Junior Aiden Renner (Phillipsburg, N.J.) won the opening faceoff, ran down the field and connected with Tattan for a goal just five seconds into the game, and the rout was on. Tattan and Walden combined for four first-quarter goals as the Panthers built a 5-0 lead after one and never looked back.

The Vikings momentarily slowed the momentum early in the second quarter, but PSU answered with a 6-0 burst, including three more goals from Walden in a span of less than two minutes, as the lead ballooned to 11-1 at halftime.

Plymouth State rolled from there to secure the key conference victory.

Prior to the game, Plymouth State honored its senior class for its contributions to the program: Nate Curtin (Norwell, Mass.), Nic Lorizio (Milton, Mass.), Cam Jenkins (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Zach Marvel (Raynham, Mass.), Brady Hunt (Billerica, Mass.), Andrew Byrne (Gansevoort, N.Y.), Matt Montoya (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Willy Doehla (Rockport, Maine) and Ethan Schena (Methuen, Mass.).

The game also served as the team's annual Morgan's Message contest, highlighting the importance of student-athlete mental health.

Plymouth State improves to 6-6 (2-3 LEC), while the Vikings go to 7-6 (2-4 LEC).

  • Freshman Cam Brosnihan (North Andover, Mass.) got into the scoring column midway through the third, while Tattan and Walden added to their totals to make it 14-4 heading to the fourth quarter.
  • The Panthers ran off another five straight goals in the first half of the final stanza to put the game completely out of reach, 19-4. Freshman Jack Derasmo (Wolcott, Conn.) capped the spurt with his second career tally.
