PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University women's ice hockey senior
Katie Porrello (Milford, Conn.) has signed a professional contract with Hammarby IF of the Nationella Damhockeyligan (NDHL).
Based in Stockholm, Sweden, Hammarby IF competes in the South division of the NDHL – the second-highest league in Sweden. The league features promotion and relegation with the top-tier Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL) and the third-tier Damtvåan.
Porrello, a 5-4 forward, leaves Plymouth State as one of the program's all-time greats. Her 20 career goals are tied for second, while she shattered the program record for career assists and finished one point shy of matching the program's all-time leader in points. She also ranks second with a 0.55 points per game average over 100 career games.
Porrello earned All-MASCAC Second Team honors as a junior, helping PSU to its first title during a marathon, four-overtime win over Rivier University in the inaugural MASCAC Women's Ice Hockey Tournament in front of a sellout crowd at Hanaway Rink. She set program records for both single-season points and assists while earning her first postseason honor.
This season, Porrello led the Panthers with seven goals while tying for the team lead with 17 points. She totaled three goals and five assists during a crucial five-game stretch late the season, helping the Panthers go 4-1 during that span to secure a postseason berth.
Plymouth State finished the year 12-14-0 overall, including a 6-12-0 mark in Little East Conference (LEC) play. The sixth-seeded Panthers fell to third-seeded Southern Maine in the opening round of the inaugural LEC Tournament.
