WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Freshman Amanda Shorey
(Ayer, Mass.) scored a pair of first period goals and senior Kelly
Connors (Topsfield, Mass.) added a third-period hat trick Friday
evening as the University of Southern Maine skated past Plymouth
State University, 7-0, in ECAC Women's East Conference action at
Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
The Huskies
even their overall record at 2-2-0 and move above the .500 mark in
the conference at 2-1-0, while PSU is still looking for its first
win after four games.
Shorey scored
the only two goals of the first period for the Huskies, an
unassisted marked at 5:18 and a power play goal from senior Katie
Quartuccio (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) at 15:54. USM extended its
lead to 3-0 at 6:53 of the middle frame when senior Amy McNally
(East Waterboro, Maine) tallied a power play goal from freshman
Mary Vaughan (Brunwick, Maine).
The third
period belonged to Connors and senior Lindsay Herzog (Hightstown,
N.J.) Connors scored three goals, her first three of the
season, junior Shannon Shuttle (New Ipswich, N.H.) added a goal,
and Herzog assisted on all four third-period markers for the
Huskies.
USM freshman
goalie Jackie Zarb (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) made seven saves to
record her first shutout, while PSU junior Lindsay
DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) finished with 45 saves.
PSU is home
again Saturday at Waterville Valley against New England College
(6:00 p.m.) USM continues its weekend road trip with a game
Saturday at Castleton State College (3:00 p.m.)
