RYE, N.Y. - Four skaters scored their first career
goals Saturday afternoon as the Manhattanville College women's
hockey team defeated Plymouth State University, 9-0, in an ECAC
Women's East Conference game at the Playland Ice Casino.
The Valiants took control of the game with a five-goal first
period, and sealed the win with two goals in the second and third
periods. Manhattanville, ranked seventh in this week's
Division III Women's national poll, improved to 6-2-0 overall and
5-1-0 in the ECAC East, while the Panthers are still looking for
their first win of the season after seven games. PSU is a
second-year varsity program in its first season in the ECAC East.
Monique Rafferty (Clifton Park, N.Y.) led the attack for the
Valiants as the only two-goal scorer on the day, both goals coming
in the opening period. Shannon Coffey (Malden, Mass.) set a
career high with three points on a goal and two assists, and
Natalie Zitek (Charleston, W. Va.) and Danielle Nagymarosi
(Uxbridge, Ontario) each collected three assists.
Reigning ECAC East Goaltender of the Year Karine Turmel
(Ste.-Marguerite) made her first start of the season in goal and
made nine saves for seventh career shutout. Junior
Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) finished with
48 saves in the Panther goal.
PSU returns home looking for its first win on Thursday at
Waterville Valley against Castleton State (6:00 p.m.) The
Valiants return to action on Jan. 4, 2008, against Williams at the
Saint Anselm Tournament in Manchester, N.H.
