FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - Plymouth State University
field hockey coach Bonnie Lord picked up her 100th
collegiate coaching win Wednesday afternoon as the Panthers
defeated Framingham State College, 3-1, in Little East Conference
action at the Maple Street Field.
The Panthers (3-4 overall, 3-1 in the LEC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead
in the first half as their offense was dominant. Junior
Ashley Gutowski (Conway, N.H.) carried the ball
thru the Rams defense and fed a perfect pass to senior
Rachel Kirschner (Burlington, Conn.) who was able
to knock it home in the 16th minute and give the Panthers a 1-0
lead.
Sophomore Kerry D'Ambroise (Lowell, Mass.) found
freshman Kristina Conroy (Wakefield, Mass.) open
in the circle less than 10 minutes later, and Conroy found
the back of the net to give the Panthers a comfortable 2-0
lead. PSU added a third goal just before the half by junior
Amanda Sherburne (Rumney, N.H.)
The Rams (4-3 overall, 2-2 in the LEC) regrouped at half time and
were able to cut the Panthers lead to 3-1 early in the second half
as Kristen Sacco (Mendon, Mass.) scored off a pass from Kali
Barrett (North Attleboro, Mass.) However, that was as close
as the Rams would get. Plymouth State goalie Leah
Curtin (Londonderry, N.H.) made seven saves on the day
including five in the second half to pick up the win.
Coach Lord, in her eighth season at PSU, is now 100-42 in her
career. She also posted a 244-52-34 career record at
Kingswood High School in Wolfeboro, N.H., prior to arriving at PSU
in 2000.
Both teams return to LEC action on Saturday as the Rams host
Fitchburg State at 11:00 a.m., while the Panthers travel to Eastern
Connecticut for a 1:00 p.m. match-up.
