SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint
Michael's College women's ice hockey team skated past Plymouth
State University Saturday afternoon, 6-0, in an ECAC East
Conference game at Cairns Arena.
The Purple Knights are now unbeaten in their last three games
(1-0-2) and are 4-11-2 overall and 2-9-2 in the ECAC East.
Plymouth State, which lost Friday night's game at MIT, 8-0, drops
to 0-14-0 overall and 0-11-0 in conference play.
Junior Meghan Sweezey (Lynnfield, Mass.) led Saint Michael's with
two goals and two assists, while junior Desiree Biron (Bow, N.H.)
and senior Jess Tourville (Baltimore, Vt.) recorded a goal and an
assist each. Senior Amy Schoon (Southborough, Mass.) and junior
Sarah Landis (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) each finished with a goal for
the winners.
Plymouth State senior Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston,
Mass.) had a busy afternoon in net, recording 51 saves in the loss.
Sophomore Alysia Goldman (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) pushed aside shots
in the shutout win for the home team.
Saint Michael's got on the board with first period goals by
Tourville and Schoon. The Purple Knights wasted only 31 seconds of
the second period to find the back of the net when Biron scored her
10th goal of the season. Landis added another just over
a minute later, and Sweezey made it 5-0 with a power play goal late
in the second period.
Once again Saint Michael's opened the period with a score, this
time 30 seconds in, when Sweezey scored her second goal of the
season off a rebound to round out the scoring.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Friday as the Purple Knights
host ECAC East opponent Salve Regina at 7:00 p.m. PSU returns home
to host a pair of ECAC games next weekend at Waterville Valley,
meeting Manhattanville Friday at 6:00 p.m. and MIT Saturday at 2:00
p.m.
