WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Sophomore Aly Zappen (Huntington
Beach, Calif.) and senior Maria Dougherty (Middletown, R.I.) scored
two goals apiece Friday evening to lead Saint Anselm College to a
10-2 victory over Plymouth State University in an ECAC Women's East
ice hockey game at Waterville Valley Arena.
Zappen also
collected two assists and Dougherty added one helper as the Hawks
improved to 5-1-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the conference.
Sophomore Jaimie Camara (Portsmouth, R.I.) and
Danielle Shea (Billerica, Mass.) potted goals for
the Panthers in the setback.
The Hawks just
about put the game away in the first period with five unanswered
goals, two from Zappen and one each from Dougherty, freshman
Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) and sophomore Angela
Zevnik (Greenfield, Wis.). The margin was extended to 7-0 in
the second period on goals by senior Daniella Lyons (Greene, Maine)
and freshman Kathryn Picarello (West Roxbury, Mass.).
The Panthers
got on the board just 35 seconds into the third period when
sophomore Tina Worley (Anchorage, Alaska) set up
Camara for her team-leading third goal of the season.
Dougherty answered for Saint Anselm just 22 seconds later to stop
any Panther momentum. Sophomore Molly Corl (Danvers, Mass.)
and junior Kristen Byrne (Duxbury, Mass.) rounded out the scoring
for the Hawks with goals late in the period, and Shea added a power
play goal for PSU with assists from Camara and sophomore
Molly Blaine (Concord, N.H.)
Saint Anselm
finished with a 46-11 advantage in shots on goal. Junior
Carley Berry (Danvers, Mass.) made nine saves to earn the win in
the Hawks' goal. Sophomore Nicole Provencher
(Guilford, Conn.) and junior Lauren Bonanni
(Ridgefield, Conn.) combined to make 36 saves in the Panther goal.
The Hawks wrap
up a weekend road trip Saturday with a visit to the University of
Southern Maine for a 4:00 p.m. conference match-up. Plymouth
State is back on the ice on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Holy Cross for an
ECAC East contest.
