WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman Stacey Hochkins (New Boston,
Mich.) scored two goals and recorded two assists Friday night as
the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team defeated Plymouth State
University, 7-0, in ECAC Women's East Conference action at the Hart
Center.
Hochkins'
four points gave her 25 assists and 48 points on the season,
breaking the Holy Cross single-season assist and point
records. The Crusaders improve to 21-2-1 (16-2-1 ECAC) while
the Panthers fall to 1-20-0 (1-17-0 ECAC).
The Holy Cross
offense exploded, scoring five goals in the first period, starting
when senior Stephanie Couzin (Chicago, Ill.) scored on a power play
at the 6:28 mark. Hochkins tallied her first goal of a evening at
the 10:18 mark and junior Kathryn O'Connor (Brookfield, Conn.) gave
the Crusaders the 3-0 lead at 15:09. Sophomore Jocelyn Kratchmer
(Watrous, Saskatchewan) notched her 20th goal of the season at
15:58, while Hochkins scored a short handed, breakaway goal at the
18:56 mark to send the Crusaders to the locker room with the 5-0
lead.
The Crusaders
out shot the Panthers, 22-0, In the second period,, but were only
able to find the back of the net once. Couzin scored her second
goal of the game at the 6:10 mark to give the Crusaders the 6-0
lead. Holy Cross continued to control the puck in the third period,
out shooting Plymouth State 13-3, but was only able to score one
more goal, by junior Kathryn Kelley (Dedham, Mass.).
Sophomore
goalkeeper Monique Gallant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia) made the start
in net for the Crusaders, improving to 6-0-1 and earning her second
shutout, while PSU senior Lindsay DeLorie
(Holliston, Mass.) finished with 55 saves.
Holy Cross
continues competition at the Hart Center on Saturday, hosting ECAC
East opponent Southern Maine for the Senior Day contest at 4:00
p.m. PSU wraps up its season Saturday with a conference game at
Salve Regina (7:00 p.m.)
