            FORT MYERS, Fla. - Senior Courtney MacFarland (Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton) recorded a win and a save for the second straight day on Monday as the Plymouth State University softball team moved to 4-0 on its Florida trip with a pair of wins in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.

            MacFarland posted her second save in as many days as PSU defeated Centenary College (N.J.) in the first game of the day, 5-3.  She came on in relief of junior Jenna George (Cumberland, R.I.), who also improved to 2-0 on the season. MacFarland earned the win in the nightcap with a complete-game effort in the Panthers' 5-1 victory over Lasell College.

            George posted the win in the opener, working into the seventh inning and departing with a 5-2 lead when MacFarland came in and induced a game-ending double play.

            The PSU offense got on the board with three runs in the third inning.  Senior Leanne Barry (Auburn, N.H./Pinkerton) and sophomore Melissa Caiazzo (Portland, Maine/Deering) had RBI singles and sophomore Kortney Nedeau (Kennebunk, Maine) added a run-scoring double.  Junior Sammi Romano (Kingston, N.H./Sanborn Regional) started a sixth-inning rally with a double that led to two insurance runs, as junior Kay LaBrie (Somersworth, N.H.) and Barry followed with RBI hits.

            MacFarland allowed only six hits and a walk en route to the complete-game win in the second game, striking out three batters. Lasell scored its only run in the third inning when a lead-off batter reached on an error and eventually came around to score.

            Plymouth State struck for two runs in the top of the third inning when freshman Heather Blase (Milford, N.H.) cracked an RBI double and then scored on a single by freshman Allie Luisi (North Kingstown, R.I.).  LaBrie led off with a walk, stole second and came around to score in both the fourth and seventh innings, and freshman Amy Green (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane) added an RBI hit in the seventh.

            The Panthers are right back on the field Tuesday with two more games for the third straight day, facing Bowdoin College at 9:00 a.m. and Worcester State College at 11:00 a.m.
