NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The
Plymouth State University men's lacrosse team scored five
consecutive goals within a span of six and a half minutes midway
through the fourth quarter Saturday afternoon and came from behind
to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 10-8, in a
Little East Conference match at Cressy Field.
The Panthers, who trailed 7-5 after junior Andrew Foster (Newbury,
Mass.) scored for UMD 14 seconds into the fourth quarter, got goals
from five different players to take a 10-7 lead with 4:47
remaining. Senior Conor McCullough (Dover, N.H.)
put the Panthers ahead when he scored with 7:04 remaining, and
sophomore Jesse Holland (Winchester, Mass.) and
junior Tim Hadley (New London, N.H.) scored to
make it 10-7. Junior Mike Lee (Foxboro, Mass.) scored for the
Corsairs to make it 10-8, but UMD could come no closer.
UMass Dartmouth took an early lead, with freshman Terence Dineen
(Falmouth, Mass.) and seniors Jason Febo (Canton, Mass.) and Bobby
Young (Billerica, Mass.) scoring to give the Corsairs a 3-1 lead
after the first quarter.
Plymouth State responded with four consecutive goals, scoring
thrice within 56 seconds to take a 4-3 advantage on a goal by
junior Matt Johansmeyer (Shelburne Falls, Mass.)
with 6:48 left in the first half. The Corsairs scored the
final three goals of the first half as senior Matt Leary
(Framingham, Mass.) scored a man-up goal at 1:51 and Foster added a
pair in the final 1:02 to give UMD a 6-5 halftime lead.
Neither team was able to score in the third period, setting up the
Panther comeback in the final frame. It is the third time
this month that a big fourth quarter has sealed a victory for PSU.
PSU out shot UMD, 38-33. Corsair freshman goaltender Kevin
Pelsinski (Merrimack, N.H.) and PSU sophomore goalie Kevin
Hayes (Beverly, Mass.) each made 13 saves.

Keene State Tuesday at Panther Field (4:00 p.m.), while the
