GORHAM,
Maine - Freshman Kailey Bubier (Auburn, Maine) scored five
goals, including a school record four in the first period, as the
University of Southern Maine defeated Plymouth State University,
16-0, in an ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Women's East
game Friday at the USM Ice Arena.
The win
improves the Huskies record to 4-8-2 overall, and 4-6-0 in league
play. The winless Panthers slide to 0-13-0 overall and 0-10-0
in the league.
Bubier netted
four goals in the opening period to become the first USM player to
score four times in a single period. Sophomores Jana Sacco
(Niagara Falls, Ontario) and JJ Kfoury (Great Falls, Va.) each had
two goals and an assist. Sophomore Danielle Ward (Lansing,
Mich.) had a goal and four assists. In all, 15 of the 18
skaters dressed for Southern Maine picked up at least one point in
the game.
The 16 goals
scored are the most by a USM squad since scoring a school record 19
goals against Salve Regina University in January 2000.
The issue was
never in doubt as the Huskies piled up an 8-0 lead in the opening
period. The margin grew to 14-0 after two periods.
Freshman Molly
Passerini (Wakefield, Mass.) picked up the shutout stopping all
nine Panther shots on goal. The shutout was the first of her
collegiate career.
Sophomore
Nicole Provencher (Guilford, Conn.) and junior

make 25 saves for Plymouth State.
