Box Score Panthers fall short despite goals from Baruch,
Fogg
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Saint Michael's College
recorded its first victory of the season Saturday afternoon with a
4-2 win over Plymouth State University in an Eastern College
Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's East ice hockey game at
Hanaway Rink.
The Purple Knights got goals from four different players, scoring
once in the first period and twice in the middle frame before PSU
got on the scoreboard. Saint Mike's led 4-1 after two
periods before a PSU power play goal a minute into the third made
it a two-goal game but the visitors held on for the win, improving
to 1-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in ECAC East games.
Shots on goal for the game were tied at 26-apiece. Plymouth
State got goals from a pair of freshmen but dropped their third
game of the season in as many outings.
Senior Kelly Rose Losi (Milton, Mass.) scored the only goal of the
first period for Saint Michael's, knocking in her first of
the season on a rebound after PSU freshman goalie Ali
Ponte (Richmond Hill, Ont.) made a save on a shot from the
point by senior Meghan Colitti (Dover, N.H.) and the first rebound
by Rose Losi. The Purple Knights added two goals in a
90-second span midway through the second period, sophomore Allison
Graf (Long Lake, Minn.) sneaking in a long shot from the point
through a screened goaltender and junior Madelena Santore
(Millington, N.J.) scoring on a breakaway.
Freshman Jane Baruch (Coventry, R.I.) put PSU on
the scoreboard at the 15:22 mark of the second, finishing off a
2-on-1 with a shot to the top right corner for her second of the
season, but junior Emily Elliott (Casper, Wyo.) came right back for
Saint Michael's less than a minute later to snuff out any
Panther momentum.
Freshman Rebecca Fogg (White River Jct., Vt.) put
one home on a rebound just 1:11 into the third period, but neither
team could get another goal the rest of the way.
Ponte made 12 saves over the first two periods, while junior
Nicole Provencher (Guilford, Conn.) stopped all 10
shots she faced in the third period. Sophomore Erin Stevens
(Watertown, Conn.) recorded the victory in the Purple Knights goal
with 24 saves.
PSU is back on the ice next Friday with an ECAC East game at
Castleton (7:00 p.m.) while Saint Mike's returns home to host
UMass Boston Friday at 4:00 p.m.
