(Wellesley Box) (Bowdoin
Box)
CLERMONT, Fla. – The Plymouth State
University softball team suffered a pair of losses to New England
schools Tuesday in a pair of non-conference games played in
Florida. PSU lost to Wellesley College in the first game,
5-3, and dropped the second game to Bowdoin College, 6-2.
The Panthers took a 3-0 lead after two innings in the first game
but the bats went silent the rest of the way and Wellesley came
back for the win. PSU scored a run in the first inning on a
wild pitch, and sophomore Amy Green (Atkinson,
N.H.) capped a two-run rally in the second inning with an RBI
single.
Freshman Diana Bean (Danvers, Mass.) pitched
shutout ball for the first four innings in the complete-game effort
but got touched for four runs in the fifth inning and took the
loss.
Bowdoin scored two runs in the first inning and added two more in
both the fourth and fifth innings to pull away from PSU. The
Panthers got on the board in the sixth inning when junior
Andrea Pydynkowski (Danvers, Mass.) and senior
Sammi Romano (Kingston, N.H./Sanborn Regional) hit
singles, and pinch runner Kristen Vibberts (West
Hartford, Conn.) came around to score on an infield error.
Romano added another run for the Panthers in the seventh inning
when she walked and circled the bases on an error, a
fielder's choice and a passed ball.
PSU freshman starter Dom Heres (Salem, N.H.)
worked six innings against the Polar Bears and took the loss.
After a day off on Wednesday, PSU returns to action Thursday in
Florida with games against Middlebury at 5:30 p.m. and MIT at 7:30
p.m.
