Panthers no match for LEC champs

            KEENE, N.H. – The Keene State College women's swimming and diving team won all 16 events Tuesday afternoon en route to a 145-107 dual meet victory over rival Plymouth State University at Spaulding Gym Pool.

            The Owls, who improved their record to 1-4, have dominated the series, winning the last 12 meets against the Panthers (2-3).  KSC is ranked 20th in the most recent TYR/CSCAA Division III poll.

            KSC was led by junior Jillian Whitaker (Gilford, N.H.) and sophomore Kaila Umbarger (Chelmsford, Mass.).  Whitaker won the 50 breast (32.05), the 50 free (26.18) and the 500 free (5:26.40).  Umbarger placed first in the 100 fly (1:00.86), 100 free (55.06) and the 50 fly (27.06).

            Freshman Lianna Wissmann (Orleans, Mass.), was a double-winner for the Owls, touching the wall first in the 50 back (15.70) and the 100 back (1:03.29).  In addition, freshman Chelsea Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) won the 1,650 free (18:33.93), senior Jessica Laidley (Brockton, Mass.) won the 200 free (2:08.74), junior Meghan Wilson (Torrington, Conn.) won the 100 breast (1:17.06) and freshman Stephanie Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) won the 200 I.M. (2:21.89).

            Senior Rachel Battis (Beacon Falls, Conn.) won both one-meter (168.75 points) and three-meter (184.65 points).

            The Panthers were led by junior Brittany Gondek (South Glastonbury, Conn.) who placed second in the 50 back (16.04).  Freshman Shannon Rogers (Beverly, Mass.) also took second in the one meter (164.60 points) and three-meter (133.15 point) diving events.

            Both teams return to the pool on Saturday. The Owls will be at Eastern Conn. and the Panthers hosts Bridgewater State. Both meets begin at 1 p.m.
