WSWIM: Bailey rewarded with Female Athlete of the Month honors after dominant January

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Olivia Bailey (Wrentham, Mass.) has been named the Plymouth State University Female Athlete of the Month for January, sponsored by the New Hampshire Army National Guard. She earned the honor following a month of standout performances and consistent top-tier finishes for the women's swim team.
 
Bailey dominated in the pool all month, consistently posting first-place finishes and setting new personal and season-best marks. She capped the month with a career-best performance in the final meet.
 
She opened the month in a dual meet at Maine Maritime on Jan. 9 with a pair of individual victories, claiming the top spot in both the 50-yard backstroke (31.41) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.17), while placing third in the 100-yard individual medley in 1:11.14. She also swam the opening leg of PSU's second-place 200-yard medley relay that teamed up for a 2:08.28.
 
She continued her strong start at Norwich on Jan. 17, winning the 50-yard backstroke (30.68) and 200-yard backstroke (2:22.47), while placing second in the 100-yard individual medley (1:10.99). Bailey also led off PSU's 200-yard freestyle relay, helping the team to a second-place finish in 1:54.55.
 
On Senior Day, Bailey swept her individual events in a triple dual against conference rivals Keene State and Rhode Island College on Jan. 24. She posted a season-best 29.86 to win the 50-yard backstroke, topped the field in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.11, and captured the 100-yard individual medley in 1:10.59. She also contributed to the Panthers' second-place 200-yard medley relay finish (2:06.59).
 
Bailey saved her best performance for the month's finale, a triple dual against Clark University at Bridgewater State on Jan. 31. She dominated the sprint freestyle events, winning the 50-yard freestyle in a personal-record 27.00 and taking second in the 100-yard freestyle with a sub-minute time of 59.74. She also led off the 200-yard medley relay, helping PSU finish second in 2:11.05 with a 30.73 split.
 
Plymouth State will compete at the Little East Conference Championships Friday through Sunday (Feb. 13-15). Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. each morning, with finals set for 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
