WELLESLEY, Mass. – Senior
Olivia Bailey (Wrentham, Mass.) and junior
Ollie Kramer (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) each delivered record-breaking performances to earn medals for the Plymouth State University women's swim team on day one of the Little East Conference (LEC) Championships at the Boston Sports Institute on Friday.
Bailey established a new program mark in the finals of the 200-yard backstroke to earn a silver medal, while Kramer shattered the 500-yard freestyle record in both the prelims and finals to earn silver as well.
Plymouth State earned 71 points on the opening day to sit in 10th place.
Meet Highlights:
- Kramer demolished the school record in the prelims of the 500-yard freestyle to post the fastest qualifying time – 5:24.86 – a mark that topped the previous record by 7.38 seconds. She was even faster in the finals, shaving more than two full seconds off the time to finish second in 5:22.80.
- Bailey took second in the finals of the 200-yard backstroke with a record-breaking time of 2:13.52. Her qualifying time of 2:15.86 was already a season best, eclipsing her previous mark by 6.61 seconds.
- Senior Jackie Gaigals (Rochester, N.H.) finished fourth in the B finals of the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 35.32 seconds. She swam a season-best 35.08 in the morning prelims.
- Junior Laurel Bennett (Rindge, N.H.) posted a massive personal-best swim in the prelims of the 500-yard freestyle, topping her prior mark by more than 13 seconds to finish in 6:38.68.
- Classmate Gabby Gladu (Lewiston, Maine) swam a personal best 36.25 in the 50-yard breaststroke prelims, missing a spot in the consolation finals by just 0.29 seconds.
- Junior Emma Hannigan (Huntington Station, N.Y.) was PSU's top finisher in the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best 29.03. Bennett swam a 30.00, while freshman Savana Vieira (Berkley, Mass.) notched a season-best 30.91.
- Junior Vickie Ni (Lebanon, N.H.) and freshman Kelsey Kuligowski (Manchester, Conn.) also competed in the event, finishing in 33.99 and 35.33, respectively.
- Bailey, Hannigan, Bennett, and Gaigals teamed up in the 200-yard freestyle relay for a season-best 1:52.97 to finish ninth.
- PSU's 400-yard medley relay team of Bailey, Gaigals, Gladu, and Kramer took tenth in 4:40.00.
