Box Score Giarrusso's hat trick lifts Hawks past
Panthers
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Rosemarie Giarrusso
(Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) recorded a hat trick Saturday evening as
Saint Anselm College skated past Plymouth State University, 4-0, in
an ECAC Women's East conference ice hockey game at Hanaway
Rink.
Giarusso scored all three of her goals in different ways. She
scored an even-strength goal to open the scoring midway through the
first period for what proved to be the game-winner; she added a
power play tally late in the period to stake her team to a 2-0
lead, and finished off the scoring with an unassisted short-handed
goal five minutes into the third period. Giarrusso now has a
team-leading 13 goals on the season.
Freshman Andi Foss (Elko, Minn.) also scored her first goal of the
season for the Hawks midway through the second period. Junior
goaltender Carley Berry (Danvers, Mass.) needed to make just seven
saves to post her first shutout of the season and the eighth of her
career.
PSU freshman Ali Ponte (Richmond Hill, Ont.) was
outstanding in the Panther goal, making 49 saves, including 22 in
the second period, to keep the Panthers in the game. Saint
Anselm out-shot the Panthers, 53-7.
Plymouth State, 0-14-1 overall and 0-9-1 in the ECAC East, is on
the road for its next five games, beginning Friday with a
conference game at Manhattanville College. Saint Anselm, 12-3-0
overall and 6-3-0 in the ECAC East, continues its four-game road
swing Tuesday with a non-conference game at Amherst.
