PSU Softball downs Tufts in season debut

Box Score

White earns victory in Panther debut

CLERMONT, Fla. – Freshman Amber White pitched the Plymouth State University softball team to a victory in the season opener Saturday afternoon as the Panthers opened the season with a 6-2 triumph over Tufts University in a non-conference game at the National Training Center.

White pitched a complete game in her collegiate debut, allowing just two runs on six hits and a pair of walks, striking out four. She helped the Panthers down a Jumbo squad that finished 22-13 last season after an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2009.

PSU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and doubled the margin with two more in the second before sealing the victory with a two-spot in the fourth.  The Panthers banged out 10 hits in support of White while playing error-free ball in the field.

Junior Allie Luisi led the winners with three hits in four trips to the plate, including a two-run, two-out double in the fourth inning.  Junior Heather Blase added a pair of hits, including a two-out RBI single in the second inning, and freshman Jackie Digman had a double in three at bats.

The Panthers will be right back at it on Sunday morning, facing Carroll University (Wisc.) at 11:30 a.m. followed by a 1:30 p.m. match-up against Union College (N.Y.)
