Petito makes career-high 35 saves in loss 

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Olivia Petito (St. Augustine, Fla.) made a career-high 35 saves in her first start for Plymouth State University, but Trinity College skated to a 3-0 win over the Panthers in a non-conference women's ice hockey game at Hanaway Rink on Monday night.

            Trinity took a 1-0 lead late in the first period, but Plymouth State nearly had the equalizer in the final seconds of the period. PSU had a couple of near misses in the middle stanza and the Bantams found the back of the net twice in the frame to push the advantage to 3-0 and neither team was able to light the lamp in the final 20 minutes.

            With the setback Plymouth State drops to 3-9-0, while Trinity moves to 5-3-2.

            How it Happened:

• Trinity applied consistent pressure to open the first period, but Petito was up to the challenge, making multiple impressive stops.
• The Bantams broke through at the 15:56 mark when senior Taylor Foy (Highlands Rach, Colo.) carried the puck up ice and whipped a wrist shot high to the glove side.
• PSU nearly had the equalizer just before the end of the first period when senior Amanda McPherson (Livonia, Mich.) tipped a shot from the point, but freshman Stephanie Garvis (Plymouth, Minn.) was able to make a blocker save.
• Trinity doubled the lead early in the second period when freshman Ethel Wilhelmsson (Stockholm, Sweden) took a quick shot off a faceoff win and found the top right corner.
• Plymouth State had a prime opportunity to cut into the deficit with a long 5-on-3 power play, but senior Alexis Fagan (Burrillville, R.I.) had her redirection of a shot from classmate Julie Nagel (Canton, Mass.) sit just in front of the goal line before the puck was cleared away.
• Freshman Chantelle Ross (Ottawa, Ontario) had a chance inside the 13-minute mark as she had the goalie beat on a breakaway, but her backhand bid went off the post.
• The Bantams pushed the lead to 3-0 with a power play strike off the stick of junior Camille von Steinbergs (Minnetonka, Minn.).
• The action went back and forth in the third period, but neither team was able to score.

            Inside the Numbers:

• Fagan had a team-high three shots for the Panthers.
• Von Steinbergs notched a goal and an assist for a two-point night for Trinity.
• Petito dropped to 0-1-0 despite her 35 saves.
• Garvis turned aside all 19 shots she faced to improve to 2-0-1.
• Trinity held a 38-19 edge in shots.
• PSU went 0-for-6 on the power play, while the Bantams were successful on 1-of-7 opportunities.

            "I love playing these hard teams and getting the competitiveness out there so when we get back into league play it helps us out a little bit," said head coach Mykul Haun. "I really like the way our game's going and our effort on the ice tonight."
