GORHAM, Maine – Plymouth State University was unable to recover after the University of Southern Maine jumped out to an early first period lead in a 4-0 setback to the Huskies in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) women's ice hockey action at USM Ice Arena on Sunday.
The Huskies lit the lamp three times in the opening stanza. Plymouth State picked up the pace from there but was unable to get anything past the home team goaltender.
Plymouth State falls to 6-11-1 overall (4-8-0 NEHC), while Southern Maine moves to 12-8-0 and 9-5-0 in conference play.

How it Happened:
- Southern Maine controlled the momentum early, but a Huskies' penalty seemed to shift the tide. PSU fired five shots during the skater advantage but was unable to get on the board.
- The Huskies took advantage of the successful kill and converted on the offensive end less than a minute later for a1-0 lead.
- USM added a pair of goals 1:37 apart in the middle of the period to push the advantage to 3-0.
- Plymouth State's offensive picked up from there, outshooting the hosts by a 27-17 margin the rest of the way, but the USM goaltender stood tall to secure the win.
By the Numbers:
- Both teams fired 33 shots on goal.
- Senior Olivia Petito (Jacksonville, Vla.) made 20 saves in relief of sophomore Amelia Julian (Apple Valley, Minn.).
- Plymouth State blocked 19 shots, highlighted by five from sophomore Carsen Moffett (Kamloops, British Columbia) and three apiece from senior Siri Brett (East Wenatchee, Wash.) and sophomore Lauren McNeil (Ottawa, Ontario).
- Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play.
