CASTLETON, Vt. – Juniors
Sophie Streed (Surry, N.H.) and
Meghan Hamilton (Walpole, Mass.) and freshman
Libby Carter (Franklin, Mas.) rallied together to score Plymouth State University's three goals for an early lead, but Castleton University mounted a comeback for a 5-3 win over the Panthers in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) women's ice hockey math at Spartan Arena on Tuesday night.
Streed posted the opening goal as she was able to outmatch her defender and took a shot at the weakside to put the Panthers up 1-0. After Castleton responded with a goal of its own, Carter took advantage of a rebound that was set up in front of the net to take back the lead. Hamilton quickly scored in the second period to balloon the Panthers' lead to 3-1, but Castleton's offense proved to be too much in the end as they put in four unanswered goals to come back for the win.
Plymouth State falls to 6-12-1 overall (4-9-0 NEHC), while Castleton bumps up to 9-8-2 and 7-5-1 in conference play.

How it Happened:
- After only two shots on goal, Streed swept past her defender and launched a shot to the weak corner to put the Panthers up 1-0, 3:52 into the first.
- Castleton didn't waste any time as they put in a score to tie the game only three minutes later.
- Carter made her career debut score as she potted a rebound to the back of the net to ensure the Panthers had a lead going into the next period with a 2-1 score.
- Hamilton made a quick strike 1:22 into the middle stanza, smashing through the Spartans' defense and pushing the Panthers ahead, 3-1.
- The Spartans gained momentum when they scored a short-handed goal, which sparked them to later punch in another two goals to take the lead, 4-3.
- The Panthers slowed the Spartans' offensive pressure but couldn't keep them at bay as Castleton's lead grew to 5-3.
- Hamilton took an opportunity after winning against a defender but couldn't get her shot past the home goaltender as the score remained 5-3 to end the game.

- Senior Olivia Petito (Jacksonville, Vla.) had 25 saves.
- The Panthers were outshot by a 30-20 margin.
