PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore
Athena Comeau (Rutland, Mass.) took home two victories to help the Plymouth State University women's indoor track & field team to a second place finish in the PSU Winter Classic at the Bank of New Hampshire Field House at ALLWell North on Saturday afternoon.
Comeau sparked the momentum of multiple individual wins with a solid showing in the 60-meter dash. She blazed through the preliminary round with the fastest time of 7.98 seconds. In the final she finished runner-up after crossing the line in 8.05 seconds, just 0.02 off the lead.
Comeau was also part of the 4x200-meter relay, joined by senior
Jade Gizzi (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshmen
Cass Hanson (Stetson, Maine) and
Deanna Dukas (Woburn, Mass.). The quartet worked together to lay down a time of 1:54.52 to win the event.
PSU placed second as a team, trailing only NCAA Division II Southern New Hampshire University.

How it Happened:
- Comeau qualified second in the 60-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 8.03 seconds, then was even faster in the finals to win with a time of 7.98.
- Sophomore Gracie Villareal (Walden, Vt.) claimed another win in the mile run, crossing the line in 6:05.78, while junior Janelle Kitchin (Fair Haven, Vt.) came in second just two seconds behind.
- Sophomore Amy Cohen (Concord, N.H.) snagged a win in her debut, racing the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:14.85. She also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 31.80.
- Sophomore Niki Monoxelos (Litchfield, N.H.) took home third in the 600-meter run in 2:14.48.
- The duo of Kitchin and Villareal came back in the 800-meter run, alongside junior Lexi Marcolini (Milford, Mass.), where they swept the top three spots.
- Junior Emily Philbrook (Penacook, N.H.) cruised to another win for the Panthers in the 3000-meter run, finishing three seconds ahead of the closest challenger in 11:42.91.
- Freshman Julia Ahern (Plymouth, N.H.) took a third-place finish in the high jump as she cleared 1.46 meters.
- Sophomore Libby McIntyre (Greene, Maine) placed third in the weight throw with a heave of 10.93 meters.
- The 4x200-meter relay capped off the day with a winning time of 1:54.52.

- Following a break for final exams and the holidays, Plymouth State will return to competition for the Middlebury Snowflake Invitational at Middlebury College on Jan. 14.
