PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior
Max Lamora (Concord, N.H.) struck out eight in his first start of the season and sophomore
Luke Sokolski (Waterford, Conn.) homered for the second straight day as Plymouth State University toppled Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, 7-2, in non-conference baseball action at Parish Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Lamora gave up just an unearned run over his five innings of work and the Panthers put up four runs in the second to jump out to an early lead. PSU tacked on with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and the Plymouth State bullpen did its job to preserve the lead.
Plymouth State improves to 8-14, while NVU-Lyndon falls to 4-15.

How it Happened:
- In a sign of things to come, Lamora struck out the side in the first and added another K in the second.
- Sophomore Joshua Welsh (East Lyme, Conn.) smoked a single up the middle and a walk and hit batter loaded the bases for the Panthers with one down in the second. Graduate student Peter Laviolette (Longboat Key, Fla.) followed with a two-run single to left and freshman Tyler Wright (Concord, N.H.) added a run-scoring single through the left side.
- Freshman Owen Baum (Saint Michaels, Md.) kept the pressure on as he ripped an RBI double just inside the third base line to make it 4-0.
- NVU-Lyndon got on the board in the third, but Lamora got a big strikeout to strand a runner at third and limit the damage.
- PSU got the run back in the fourth when Wright was hit by a pitch and cruised around the bases when the Hornets' catcher threw the ball away trying to catch him off first.
- Sokolski made it 6-1 when he launched a solo shot just to the right of the scoreboard in left field in the fifth and junior Alex Rives (Gilford, N.H.) ripped a single up the middle to knock in classmate Nick Healey (Campton, N.H.) in the sixth.
- The visitors came back with a run the next half inning, but the Panthers' bullpen closed the door from there.
By the Numbers:
- Sokolski finished 2-for-4 and homered for the second straight game.
- Baum (2-for-4) and Healey (2-for-3) also had two-hit games with each knocking a single and double.
- Lamora allowed just two hits and struck out eight during his five innings of work to move to 1-0.
- Juniors Eoin Hamell-Kelleher (Attleboro, Mass.), Aiden McDonough (Dover, N.H.) and Bobby Cliche (Stratham, N.H.) combined to strike out six over their three innings of work, while senior Noah Wachter (Concord, N.H.) picked off two runners in the ninth.

- The Panthers return to Little East Conference (LEC) play on Saturday (Apr. 9) when they visit rival Keene State College for a doubleheader starting at noon.
