BB: Interim tag removed, Theriault elevated to Head Coach

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Less than a month after being named interim head coach, Plymouth State University has announced the appointment of Andy Theriault as the head coach of the Panthers' baseball program.

Theriault took over as interim head coach on April 7, following the resignation of former coach Ryan McIntosh with the team holding a 1-11 record at the time. Since taking over, the Panthers have gone 4-13, including Little East Conference (LEC) wins over WestConn, VTSU Castleton, and Rhode Island College.

"Andy has demonstrated leadership, integrity, and a commitment to our student-athletes, and the team has embraced his approach," said Director of Athletics Kim Bownes. "We are excited for him to take on a more permanent role and are confident the program is in good hands moving forward."

Theriault arrives with over 15 years of coaching experience across the travel, prep, collegiate, and summer ranks. He previously spent three seasons with the Panthers (2019-21) as pitching coach, where he also played a key role in recruiting and player development. His coaching background also includes time at Brewster Academy, Saint Joseph's College of Maine, and Gordon College before making his return to Plymouth this spring.

At the summer level, Theriault built an impressive track record with the Brockton Rox of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League from 2017-20. He guided the pitching staff to league-best marks in ERA, shutouts and opponent batting average during a 32-win campaign in 2017. After shifting to hitting coach, he was elevated to manager and led the Rox to the FCBL's top record in 2019, earning All-Star Game managerial honors along the way.

A Wolfeboro native, Theriault starred as a multi-sport athlete at Kingswood Regional High School, collecting All-State recognition in both baseball and football. He went on to play collegiately at Castleton University before finishing his career at Southern New Hampshire University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration.

"My family and I are humbled for the opportunity to lead the Plymouth State baseball program," said Theriault. "I would like to thank President Birx and Athletic Director Kim Bownes for placing their faith and trust in me. I also want to thank all the coaches I have worked with for helping mold me into the coach I am today. Lastly, I would be nothing without all the hard work from the players I have been lucky enough to coach. We are looking forward to building a program that makes our university, alumni, and families proud! Go Panthers!"

Plymouth State closes out the regular season with an LEC doubleheader at UMass Boston today (May 1).
