GORHAM, Maine – Junior
Athena Comeau (Rutland, Mass.) paced the Plymouth State University women's indoor track & field team to a fourth-place finish at the Husky Invitational hosted by the University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon.
Comeau began in the 55-meter dash preliminaries where she dominated with a time of 7.56 seconds. She continued her momentum into the finals where she won the event with a time of 7.48. Comeau added a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 27.25 seconds.
PSU took fourth overall at the meet, falling just shy of Little East Conference (LEC) rivals Southern Maine and Keene State, along with NCAA Division II Southern New Hampshire.

How it Happened:
- Senior Jordan Velie (Manchester, N.H.) kicked off the day with a strong showing in the 55-meter hurdle trials with a time of 10.34 seconds.
- Comeau and freshman Cass Hanson (Stetson, Maine) blazed through the 55-meter dash prelims with times of 7.56 and 7.85 seconds. Comeau overtook the entire field in the finals with a time of 7.48 and Hanson finished third in 7.82 seconds.
- The duo of juniors Emily Philbrook (Penacook, N.H.) and Catherine Donovan (Hollis, N.H.) took third and fifth in the mile run with times of 5:46.06 and 6:05.53.
- Junior Mackenzie Labrie (Canaan, N.H.) placed third in the 400-meter dash in 1:07.27, while classmate Janelle Kitchin (Fair Haven, Vt.) finished second in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:50.37.
- Freshman Amber Fernald (Alton, N.H.) was just behind Kitchin in sixth place in 2:11.02.
- Senior Abby Hurley (Kennebunkport, Maine) represented in the 1,000-meter run in 3:36.37.
- Comeau made another appearance in the 200-meters to place second in 27.24 seconds.
- The distance medley relay team of Kitchin, Labrie, Philbrook and sophomore Gracie Villareal (Walden, Vt.) finalized the track events with a third-place finish, crossing the line in 14:28.26.
- Sophomore Julia Ahern (Plymouth, N.H.) placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 4.19 meters, and eighth in the high jump after clearing 1.46 meters.
Up Next:
- The Panthers return home for Senior Day and the Panther Invitational II next Saturday (Feb. 4). First events are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., following the conclusion of Senior Day ceremonies.
