Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Ryan Moyer, Athletic Communications Assistant

WH: Streed’s late goal lifts Panthers over Johnson & Wales

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Sophie Streed (Surry, N.H.) scored the game's lone goal to push Plymouth State University past Johnson & Wales University, 1-0, in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) women's ice hockey action at Hanaway Rink on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers and Wildcats exchanged multiple shots throughout the contest, with both teams also trading power play opportunities, but neither team was able to solve the opposing goaltender. Plymouth State finally capitalized during a 5-on-3 power play chance late in the third period. Sophomore Katie Porrello (Milford, Conn.) passed to junior Emily DeSimone (Norwood, Mass.), who set Streed up on the left side and her shot snuck between the goalie and near post for the 1-0 win.

JWU brought on the extra skater in a final attempt to tie the game, but Porrello made a crucial block near the goal to help preserve the win.

Plymouth State jumps to 2-1-0 (2-0-0 NEHC) while the Wildcats fall to 0-4-0 (0-2-0 NEHC).

  • After the Panthers were able to kill off the first power play of the game, Plymouth State went on the offensive with a chance of its own but couldn't move past the Wildcats' defense as the game remained scoreless.
