PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior
Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) was selected for Little East Conference (LEC) women's tennis postseason honors on Wednesday after being named to the LEC Sportsmanship Team.
Cardoso was arguably the most consistent performer for the Panthers, finishing the season tied for the team lead in both singles and doubles wins. She posted a 7-4 mark at No. 4 singles, including a 5-3 record in LEC matches, while going 7-5 at No. 2 doubles, where she also posted a 5-3 conference mark.
Cardoso and the Panthers went 6-6 overall and posted a 4-4 record in LEC play to make an 11th-straight appearance in the LEC Tournament last week. Plymouth State ended the season in a three-way tie for fourth place in the league, and the Panthers were awarded the fourth seed for the tournament following the application of the league's tie-break procedure.
PSU rolled past fifth-seeded Salem State, 5-2, in a first round matchup to advance to the semifinals for the first time under third-year head coach
Kathy Peverly. Cardoso picked up a straight sets win at No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-3), while also winning her doubles match by an 8-4 score.
Top-seeded and two-time defending champions UMass Boston ended the Panthers' season in the semifinal round, before the Beacons went on to capture a third-straight title.
Cardoso ends her career with 29 singles wins, tied for tenth most in program history, while her seven singles wins at No. 4 this fall are tied for the fifth-most in a season at that spot.
