LACONIA, N.H. – Visiting University of Southern Maine hit three first-inning home runs to snag an early lead and never look back in a 15-1 win over Plymouth State University in Little East Conference (LEC) baseball action at Robbie Mills Field on Tuesday night.
The Huskies went back-to-back to open the game and a three-run shot later in the frame extended the early lead. Plymouth State was unable to string together hits until junior
Cole Johnston (Campton, N.H.) poked a bases-loaded single to right in the sixth for PSU's lone run.
Plymouth State dips to 8-13 (4-7 LEC), while the Huskies improve to 12-18 (6-6 LEC).

How it Happened:
- Southern Maine raced out to a 6-0 lead in the first.
- Senior Luke Sokolski (Waterford, Conn.) ripped a two-out double inside the left field line in the bottom half but was stranded.
- The visitors tacked on two more in the third before putting a six-spot up in the fourth.
- Junior Danny Quinn (Holliston, Mass.) singled and graduate student Nick Healey (Campton, N.H.) drew a walk to put two runners on in the fourth, but USM escaped unscathed.
- Junior Scooter Summa (Ellicott City, Md.) and Sokolski had singles in the fifth, but PSU was held off the scoreboard.
- The Panthers finally broke through the next inning. Junior Sam Malgeri (Stratham, N.H.) and sophomore Chris Faherty (Phoenix, Ariz.) both singled and freshman Josh Worthington (Pownal, Vt.) drew a walk. Johnston singled to right to drive in a run, but a strikeout ended the threat and the Panthers were unable to extend the game.

- Johnston singled and walked in two plate appearances, driving in the team's run.
- Healey walked in both his at bats.
- Junior Nick Wilson (Mont Vernon, N.H.) and junior Steven Geiger (Tucson, Ariz.) each threw a scoreless inning in relief.
