SKI: Haussmann to return to National Championships

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – For the third consecutive year, senior Max Haussmann (Reutlingen, Germany) will represent Plymouth State University on collegiate skiing's biggest stage.

Haussmann is among 34 collegiate skiers set to compete for a national title at the 2025 National Collegiate Skiing Championships, held at Dartmouth Skiway in Lyme from March 5-8.

With this bid, Haussmann becomes just the fourth PSU skier – and the third on the men's side – to qualify for three or more NCAA championships. He joins alumni Cooper Yates (2018, '20, '21), Karl Kuus (2017, '18, '19, '20) and Freydis Einarsdottir (2016, '17, '18) in achieving this milestone.

Once again, Haussmann has been the Panthers' top skier through carnival season, posting the team's best finish in 10 of 12 carnival races this winter. He aims to become the program's first two-time NCAA All-American, having earned Second Team All-American honors in the slalom after finishing seventh at the 2023 championships. Last winter, he placed 22nd in the giant slalom, but did not finish in the slalom.

All five of Haussmann's top-15 finishes on the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) circuit this season have come in the slalom. He opened the year with a season-best fifth place in the discipline at the Bates Carnival and secured 10th place last Saturday at the EISA Championships at PSU's home mountain, Mittersill at Cannon Mountain.

Panther fans hope Haussmann's familiarity with Dartmouth Skiway – where he has had success in recent years – will be an advantage next week. Less than three weeks ago, he placed ninth in the slalom at the Dartmouth Carnival. At the same event last winter, he finished sixth in the giant slalom and 10th in the slalom.

Participants qualify on a regional basis, with 17 qualifiers from each of the two Alpine skiing regions (East and West). Bids are allocated using a formula determined by the NCAA skiing committee, with a maximum of 12 student-athletes (three per gender per discipline) selected from any single school.

The championships begin March 5 with the men's and women's giant slalom. The men's first runs are set for 10:15 a.m., with second runs scheduled for 1:30 p.m. After a day off for the Nordic 7.5K classic, Alpine skiers return for the slalom on March 7, with the men's first runs at 10:15 a.m. and second runs at 1 p.m.
