PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshmen
Ani Flynn (Plymouth, N.H.) and
Mia Sweeney (Plymouth, Mass.) were both honored by the Little East Conference (LEC) on Monday with Yankee Ford weekly honors.
Flynn was named the LEC Women's Field Rookie of the Week, while Sweeney was selected as Track Rookie of the Week.
Flynn flirted with a program record while winning the high jump at the Regis Spring Classic on Friday, clearing a height of 1.56 meters to claim victory. Her mark was just 0.02 meters shy of the school record. Flynn also ran a leg of PSU's 1,600-meter Sprint Medley Relay that shattered the program best time by roughly 20 seconds. Flynn and the rest of the squad combined for a time of 4:22.40 to win the event.
Sweeney also claimed an individual victory while competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the first time. Sweeney posted a time of 12:44.82 to win by nearly seven full seconds.
Plymouth State finished the meet with 64 points to finish fourth out of 16 teams.
The Panthers have a busy week, with select members competing at the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College on Friday (Apr. 11), and the rest of the squad heading to the Ed Daniels Invitational at SNHU on Saturday (Apr. 12).
