PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Sya McKay (Somersworth, N.H.) was honored by the Little East Conference (LEC) as a weekly award winner for the second straight week, the league announced on Monday.
 
McKay was tabbed the LEC Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week after leading the Panthers to a pair of three-set sweeps to extend the team's winning streak to six.
 
McKay hit .356 and averaged 3.67 kills per set, chipping in three aces, four digs, and three blocks as PSU upended Saint Joseph's College of Maine and Bridgewater State last week.
 
McKay slammed 10 kills (.304) with three digs, one ace, and one block in a sweep of the Monks on Tuesday but was even better against Bridgewater State. In Saturday's win over the Bears, she finished with 12 kills (.409), two aces, and two blocks.
 
McKay continues to appear among the league leaders in several categories – first in solo blocks (18), third in total blocks (32), fourth in kills (91), fourth in blocks per set (0.78), sixth in points (130), seventh in points per set (3.17), seventh in hitting percentage (.269), 11th in hitting percentage (.247), and 13th in kills per set (2.22).
 
Plymouth State hosts VTSU Lyndon in non-conference action on Wednesday (Sept. 24), before opening the LEC schedule at home against Rhode Island College on Saturday (Sept. 27).
