PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman
Owen Webber (Bow, N.H.) capped a four-run rally with a three-run homer, and junior
Aaron Kent (Keene, N.H.) and senior
Ross Tine (Wethersfield, Conn.) combined to throw seven scoreless innings of one-hit ball as Plymouth State University pulled away from New England College, 10-2, in a non-conference matchup at Parish Field on Monday.
Freshman
Joey Dronzank (Hebron, Conn.) snapped a 2-2 tie with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth, and Webber followed with a three-run blast to left field to put the Panthers in front for good. Kent sparkled in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out six over four innings to pick up the win, while Tine followed with three hitless innings to earn the save.
Plymouth State improves to 5-23, while the Pilgrims end the season at 8-30.
The Basics:
- Plymouth State 10, NEC 2
- Plymouth State (5-23)
- NEC (8-30)
How it Happened:
- The Pilgrims took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second.
- Sophomore Anthony Cooley (Brunswick, Maine) smacked an RBI double in the bottom of the inning and graduate student Connor Dobson (South Portland, Maine) tied it with a run-scoring single.
- Kent came on in relief in the top of the third and kept the Pilgrims off the board.
- The Panthers pulled ahead in the fourth as a walk, hit-by-pitch, and Dobson's bunt single loaded the bases. Dronzank's sacrifice fly gave PSU the lead, and Webber followed with a three-run homer to make it 6-2.
- Dronzank started another four-run inning in the sixth with a leadoff ground-rule double. Two runs would score on wild pitches, junior Brayden Michaelson (Charlton, Mass.) drove in a run with a single, and another run came home on a balk to make it 10-2.
- Tine entered in the seventh and hit the first batter he faced, but retired the next six hitters. He then worked around a pair of walks in the ninth to earn his first save in more than three years.
By the Numbers:
- Cooley went 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.
- Dobson had two hits, drove in a run, and scored once.

- Senior Ray Campbell (Torrington, Conn.) singled, walked, and scored twice.
- Michaelson was also on base twice with a single and a walk, scoring two runs and driving in one.
