PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore
Sya McKay (Somersworth, N.H.) was selected for Little East Conference (LEC) recognition on Monday as the league announced its weekly award winners.
McKay was named LEC Women's Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week following a career-best performance in Plymouth State's 1-2 week.
McKay averaged 3.73 kills and 1.00 blocks per set while hitting .380 across three matches, totaling 41 kills, five solo blocks, six block assists and two aces.
She began the week with 10 kills (.563) and two blocks to help the Panthers sweep Norwich University on Tuesday. On Saturday, she pounded 13 kills and added an ace and two blocks in a 3-0 setback to Wesleyan University, which reached the regional final of the NCAA Tournament last fall, before ending the week with a career-high 18 kills (.400) and seven blocks in a five-set loss to WPI.
Plymouth State (5-3) has a pair of road matches this week, starting with a trip to Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on Tuesday (Sept. 15) for a 6 p.m. clash with the Monks. The Panthers end the week at Bridgewater State on Saturday (Sept. 19) at noon.
