PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State University
exploded for eight goals Sunday afternoon to post an 8-2 victory
over Thomas College in a non-conference field hockey game at Arold
Field.
The output was the most PSU goals in a game since the Panthers
recorded eight goals in consecutive victories over Eastern
Connecticut and Fitchburg State back in October of 2004. The
win was Plymouth State's second in a row on the weekend, improving
the Panthers to 7-6 overall. Thomas, which also lost at
Castleton State on Saturday, dropped to 3-11.
Junior Sarah Smith (Lexington, Mass.) led the
scoring parade for PSU with a pair of goals, while six other
Panthers tallied one each. Senior Ashley
Gutowski (Conway, N.H.) contributed a goal and two
assists, sophomore Kristina Conroy (Wakefield,
Mass.) added a goal and an assist, and juniors
Morgan Lemmon (Gilford, N.H.) and Kerry
D'Ambroise (Lowell, Mass.), sophomore Courtney
McLaughlin (Bellingham, Mass.) and freshman
Christina Parisi (Hampton Falls, N.H.) chipped in
with one goal each. Freshman Lauren Bergeron
(New Hampton, N.H.) also collected three assists.
The Terriers got unassisted goals, one in each half, from freshmen
Christina Allaire (North Berwick, Maine) and Kristin Masessa
(Montville, Maine).
PSU finished with a 29-9 advantage in shots, and a 22-2 margin in
penalty corners. Sophomore Meg Denby (Copiague, N.Y.) had a
busy day in the Thomas goal, finishing with 12 saves, while PSU
freshman keeper Elyse Sedgley (Hopkinton, N.H.)
made five saves.
PSU resumes Little East Conference play on Wednesday with a visit
to the University of Southern Maine for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
Thomas wraps up the regular season Wednesday at home with a North
Atlantic Conference match-up against UMaine Farmington (3:30 p.m.)
