PLYMOUTH, N.H. -
The Plymouth State University Panthers shut out the Vikings of
Salem State College Saturday afternoon, 5-0, as five different
players recorded a goal in a Little East Conference field hockey
game at Arold Field.
The Panthers scored three first-half goals en route to the win over
the Vikings (1-1). Plymouth State (1-2) added two more goals
in the second half to complete the shutout. PSU grabbed its
first win of the season in its home opener and handed the Vikings
their first loss.
PSU freshman goalie Elyse Sedgley (Hopkinton,
N.H.) made one save in each half as she recorded her first career
shutout.
Junior Sammi Ramano (Kingston, N.H.) scored first
midway through the first half, with an assist from senior
Ashley Gutowski (Conway, N.H.) to give Plymouth
State a 1-0 lead. Then freshman Kaleigh
Chase (Wells, Maine) and junior Sarah
Smith (Lexington, Mass.) added a goal each before the
first half ended to make it a 3-0 game at the break.
The Panthers continued to dominate in the second half, as Gutowski
tallied her team-leading fourth goal of the season and sophomore
Courtney McLaughlin (Bellington, Mass.) scored the
fifth and final goal.
PSU is back in action this Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. with a
non-conference game at Lasell College. Salem State plays
Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at home against Becker College.
