KEENE, N.H. - Playing its first home game of the
season, the Keene State College baseball team banged out 15 hits
Friday afternoon and got a solid start from sophomore Corey Vogt
(Suffield, Conn.), who tossed six innings of two-hit ball, in a
17-0 shutout victory over rival Plymouth State University at Owl
Athletic Complex.
The Owls used the long ball to build up an early lead in the
game. Sophomore Bobby Doyon (Keene, N.H.) had a three run
home run, his fifth of the season, in the first inning. Senior Beau
Darak (Londonderry, N.H.) added a two-run shot, his first of the
season, in a five-run second inning. Doyon, who also had a
two-run single in the inning, finished the game with three hits and
six RBIs.
KSC went up 11-0 in the fourth with junior Keith Patnode (Keene,
N.H.) and freshman Cody Callahan (Seekonk, N.H.) driving in runs
with RBI singles. Freshman Kyle Morrill (Auburn, N.H.), Patnode,
and Callahan finished the game with two hits each.
Seniors Marc McGinnis (Hanover, Mass.) and
Josh Roberti (Cranston, R.I.), sophomore
Grant Livingston (Niantic, Conn.), and freshman
Mike Cappiello (Westfield, N.J.) picked up hits
for the Panthers.
Vogt fanned five and issued one walk to improve his record to
3-0.
Keene State (13-8, 3-2 LEC) extends its winning streak to five
games while Plymouth State falls to 7-13 and 1-4 in
conference play. Both team play LEC doubleheaders at 12 noon on
Saturday, the Owls travel to Southern Maine and the Panthers go to
UMass Boston.
