PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Jeff Perkins (Dunbarton,
N.H.Goffstown) went 5-for-6 with a home run and four runs batted in
and freshman Kyle Morrill (Auburn, N.H./Memorial) drove in five
runs with three hits, including a double and a grand slam home run,
Friday afternoon to lead Keene State College to a 28-11 victory
over rival Plymouth State University in Little East Conference
baseball action at Panther Park.
The
two teams combined for 39 runs on 38 hits, including 14 for extra
bases, while the fielders commited 11 errors. Keene State
improves to 18-14 overall and 6-6 in the Little East, while PSU
drops to 14-19 overall and 1-9 in conference play.
The
Owls led 7-5 after four innings, but put the game out of reach with
six runs in the fifth inning and seven more in both the sixth and
eighth frames. PSU reached double digits in scoring by adding
six runs in the last of the eighth.
Junior Anthony Cipolla (Glastonbury, Conn.) added to the Owls'
27-hit attack with four hits, including a home run. Sophomore
Bobby Doyon (Keene, N.H.) chipped in with three doubles and three
runs batted in, and freshman Cody Callahan (Seekonk, Mass.)
contributed three hits, including a double, and two RBIs.
Junior Ben Sonberg (Bow, N.H.) recorded the win for the Owls,
improving to 4-2 with six innings of work. He allowed five
runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks, striking out eight.
Senior Josh Roberti (Cranston, R.I.) highlighted
the Panther offense with a two-run home run in the third inning,
the first of his 108-game career. Sophomore Bryant
Lausberg (Somersworth, N.H.) added two hits and three
RBIs.
Both teams play LEC home doubleheaders at 12 noon on Saturday, PSU
hosting the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Senior Day at
Panther Park and KSC entertaining Western Connecticut at the Owl
Baseball Stadium.
