PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Middlebury College scored eight runs in
the seventh inning Wednesday afternoon, breaking open a 5-5 game
and spoiling Plymouth State University's home opener with a 14-5
victory over the home team at Panther Park.
Middlebury led 5-4 after an inning and a half, and
it stayed that way until PSU plated a run in the last of the sixth
inning to knot the score. The visitors came right back in the
top of the seven with the eight runs to put the game away.
Middlebury evens its season record at 7-7, while Plymouth State
drops to 5-12.
Sophomore Donald McKillop (Poway, Calif.) had three hits, including
a pair of two-run home runs to lead the visiting Panthers.
His first round-tripper gave Middlebury a 2-0 lead in the first
inning, and his second finished off the seventh-inning rally.
Junior Danny Seymour (Weston, Conn.) and senior Tim Dillon (Dracut,
Mass.) joined McKillop with three hits each for Middlebury.
Seymour also had a double and three RBI, while Dillon added a
double and two RBI. Senior Andrew Matson (Coventry, R.I.)
contributed two hits, including his first home run of the season.
Senior Nick Englert (North Woodstock, N.H.) led
Plymouth State with two hits, including a first-inning double and a
two-out RBI single to tie the game in the sixth inning.
Classmate Josh Roberti (Cranston, R.I.) capped
PSU's four-run first inning with a two-out, two-run single.
Middlebury used five pitchers, with freshman Peter Kinchley
(Swampscott, Mass.) picking up the win in relief.
Plymouth State is home again on Thursday, hosting Castleton State
College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Middlebury opens a four-game weekend series at Tufts University
Friday at 1:30 p.m.
