Box Score (Box Score)
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Grant
Livingston (Niantic, Conn.) and freshman Steve
Beard (Middleton, Mass.) had three hits apiece and
sophomore Joe Hudson (Greenfield, Mass.) pitched a
five-hit shutout Thursday afternoon as Plymouth State University
defeated Becker College, 13-0, in a non-conference baseball game at
Panther Park.
The Panthers plated seven runs in the first inning and never looked
back en route to the victory. PSU finished with 13 runs on 12
hits in the seven-inning affair and played error-free ball in the
field, upping its record to 7-23 overall. Becker had a modest
two-game win streak stopped and dropped to 11-15.
Hudson scattered five hits and three walks over his seven-inning
stint, striking out five to record his first career shutout.
His battery-mate Anthony Vadala (Medford, Mass.)
also helped out at the plate with a single and three runs batted
in.
Freshmen Rew Wilson (Niantic, Conn.),
Brendan Cosgrove (Merrimack, N.H.) and Beard all
had RBI singles to spark PSU's first inning rally.
Cosgrove added a sacrifice fly in the third inning, and sophomore
Joe Eramo (Shirley, Mass.) followed with his first
career home run, a two-run blast. Vadala's two-run
single in the fifth inning capped the Panther scoring.
Becker managed just five hits in the game, including doubles by
freshman Eric Lajoie (Oakham, Mass.) and senior L.J. Blomgren
(Bradenton, Fla.).
Plymouth State returns to the diamond Saturday with a Little East
Conference doubleheader against the University of Massachusetts
Boston (12 noon). It will be LEC Prostate Cancer Awareness
Day at Panther Park as the conference helps raise awareness for the
disease.
Becker wraps up its regular season this weekend with a New England
Collegiate conference three-game series against Southern
Vermont.
