Box Score Panthers benefit from 11 walks
           
RINDGE, N.H. – Plymouth State University
scored 15 runs on eight hits and 11 walks Thursday afternoon to win
a non-conference baseball game against Rivier College in Rindge,
N.H. at Franklin Pierce University.
           
Junior Ryan McIntosh (Lincoln, N.H.) led the
Panthers with two hits, including a double, and three runs batted
in. Senior Anthony Vadala (Medford, Mass.) also
collected two hits and drove in a run and junior Mike
Cappiello (Westfield, N.J.), sophomore Joe
Perry (Sandwich, Mass.) and freshman Jeff
Runnals (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingswood) each knocked in
two.
           
The Panthers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, two runs coming
home on back-to-back doubles by McIntosh and senior Bryant
Lausberg (Somersworth, N.H.)  PSU put the game away
in the fourth inning with eight runs on four hits.  Vadala had
an RBI single in the rally and McIntosh and Runnals added two-run
singles.
           
PSU starting pitcher Joe Hudson (Greenfield,
Mass.) cruised through five innings of one-hit ball, giving up just
one run in the fourth inning after a walk to Greg Sierra (Bronx,
N.Y.) and a double to Aramis Velez (Lowell, Mass.).  Both
Jonathan Bishop (Woburn, Mass.) and Bobby
Chatfield (Sharon, Conn.) pitched an inning of no-hit
relief for Plymouth to finish the game after seven innings.
           
Plymouth State, 5-10 overall, opens Little East Conference play
Saturday with a 12 noon doubleheader at Eastern Connecticut State
University.  Rivier, 1-8, will host Suffolk University in a
twinbill Saturday at Adams Field in Quincy, Mass.
