MOTF: Rigoli, 4x400-meter relay set records at Penmen Relay

HOOKSETT, N.H. – Senior Jacob Rigoli (Essex, Vt.) and the Plymouth State University men's outdoor track & field 4x400-meter relay team made history by breaking program records at the Penmen Relays hosted by Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday.
 
Rigoli struck gold in the hammer throw as he demolished the school record by almost two full meters, throwing 49.61 meters to place second overall at the meet. His performance puts him fifth in the region and atop the conference. He also placed fifth in the discus throw with a toss of 40.57 meters.
 
The Panthers' 4x400m relay team of junior Mike Olson (Sutton, Mass.), sophomores Jyaire Hatcher (Uniondale, N.Y.) and Ryan Moyer (Dover, N.H.) and freshman Christian Oglesby (Penacook, N.H.) laid down a blazing time of 3:26.88 to break a five-year record by roughly one second.
 
Olson and Moyer added second and fourth place finishes in the 800-meter run, while Hatcher and Oglesby took fourth and fifth in the 400-meter dash.
 
Plymouth State finished third out of 14 teams and just behind Little East Conference (LEC) rival Eastern Connecticut State University and well ahead of conference foes Castleton University, Rhode Island College and University of Southern Maine.

  • Penmen Relays – 3rd of 14 Teams
    • Franklin Pierce (118), Eastern Connecticut (116), Plymouth State (102), Nichols (77.5), Wentworth (62.5), Bentley (60), Castleton (57), Saint Rose (42), RIC (30), Plattsburgh St. (30), Southern Maine (27), Colby-Sawyer (17), Lasell (15), Suffolk (10).
How it Happened:
  • The foursome of senior Terrell Lewis (New Boston, N.H.), juniors Ian Griffiths (Bedford, Mass.) and Justin Shokal (Alexandria, N.H.) and sophomore Brandon Vachon (Ayer, Mass.) put in a fast time for the 4x100-meter relay, scoring second in a time of 44.37 seconds. They were just 0.36 seconds shy of the program record.
  • Hatcher and Oglesby stayed neck-and-neck through the first 300 meters of the 400-meter dash until Hatcher pulled just ahead for fourth place in 52.21 seconds, with Oglesby on his heels in fifth in 52.29 seconds.
  • Lewis punched in the first PSU win of the day in the 110-meter hurdles as he overtook the field in 14.82 seconds to claim victory.
  • Olson and Moyer were joined by junior Colin Moar (Annandale, Va.) in the 800-meter run. Olson and Moyer placed second and fourth with season best times of 1:56.44 and 1:59.03, respectively. Moar took sixth by winning his heat in 2:01.94.
  • Senior Randall Scroggins (Rumney, N.H.) represented in the 400-meter hurdles to place ninth in 1:10.80.
  • Griffiths added to his day with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 23.12 seconds.
  • The 5000-meter duo of freshmen Connor Wilcox (Colchester, Conn.) and Jacob Gallaher (Gambrills, Md.) paced one another once again for third and sixth place finishes. Wilcox ran a season best 15:43.26, while Gallaher's 15:48.25 was also a season best.
  • Lewis and Griffiths placed third and eighth in the long jump with leaps of 6.53 meters and 6.00 meters.
  • Junior Owen Billin (Meredith, N.H.) scored in the triple jump with a leap of 12.25 meters to place fifth.
  • Vachon tacked on a sixth place finish in the javelin throw as he hurled it 43.32 meters.
  • Rigoli led the team in the throwing events with a second place finish in the hammer, throwing for a school record distance of 49.61 meters and adding a fifth place finish in the discus throw with a toss of 40.57 meters.
  • The group of Billin, seniors Mike Barrett (Hudson, N.H.) and Kyle Mau (Dover, N.H.) and freshman Dillon Glazer (West Wardsboro, Vt.) came together for PSU's first Sprint Medley Relay. Their performance placed them eighth overall with a time of 4:03.17.
  • Oglesby, Moyer, Hatcher and Olson broke the 4x400-meter relay record with a time of 3:26.88 and won the event.
  • Senior CJ Miller (Branford, Conn.) and junior Mason Howe (Sanbornton, N.H.) joined sophomore Janelle Kitchin (Fair Haven, Vt.) and freshman Abby Snow (Grantham, N.H.) on the women's side for the first Mixed 4x400-meter relay in school history. The squad finished third overall with a time of 4:07.14.
