WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Senior
Jacob Rigoli (Essex, Vt.) was the lone competitor for the Plymouth State University men's outdoor track & field team at the NCAA Division III New England Championships on Friday where he made history once again, breaking another program record and scoring second at the meet hosted by Williams College.
Rigoli entered the hammer throw as the fourth seed but made easy work of the field as he instantly shattered his own record in the event on his first throw of the day with a toss of 53.67 meters. He topped that mark twice more in the preliminary flight with throws of 53.68 and 54.27 meters.
Rigoli entered the final as the top seed and finished second overall to earn All-New England honors with an outstanding heave of 55.12 meters, resetting the program mark to that distance.
Rigoli's performance moves him up to 16th in the nation, putting himself in contention for a spot at the NCAA Division III National Championships later this month.
The championships conclude Saturday (May 7) with Rigoli competing in the discus throw, while other Panthers compete in the 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, 4x400-meter relay and 4x800-meter relay.
